June 2007

June flying weeks - A club flying week was held at the start of June, we flew on all 5 days, with soaring flights early in the week and visibility deteriorating near the end of the week.  Congratulations to Dave Arblaster for going solo during the week!  The week was capped off by a BBQ on the Friday night (Thanks to all that helped to organise it).

A pre solo week was held at the end of June,

Easter bank holiday flying
The weather played in our favour and we managed to fly on all four days with a total of 153 launches and over 28hrs.  The new dyneema cable seems to be very successful and already we are getting higher launches. Checking out winch drivers and solo pilots on the new cable took place, with several winch drivers now checked out on the different techniques and most of our solo pilots checked out on the dyneema.

New additions to the privately owned fleet!
A warm welcome to 411 (DG300 - recently purchased by Iain Roberts and Andy Davis), who took her first flights from Cross Hayes over the Easter weekend, and also to EFC (Sie 3 - owned by Mike Skinner), which has returned to the club after several years at Vale of White Horse.

April 2006

Congratulations to Iain Roberts. He now has his silver C badge.

As reported by Val, the club has been awarded Community Amateur Sports Club status.  This involved considerable work in research and in making an acceptable application.  Thanks to Val and Andy in particular.

The club Christmas barbecue was very well attended and enjoyed.  Notably, fewer pilots crashed the glider simulators compared with last year and the sound of ambulance sirens was not continuous.  Well done some.

The annual Quiz Night happened again, thanks to Dave Johnstone.  He really does get one’s little grey cells in motion.

The Caroline Trust supports young people by awarding grants to off-set gliding costs and we currently have four members benefiting.

Many thanks to members who have had time and been able to undertake or assist in various maintenance jobs in the hangar or around the site

July 2004

Congratulations to Kat Lewis, Carl Smales and Phil Harvey who've all achieved silver height.  Unfortunately the weekend weather during June and July has been largely disappointing, but from the start of August we have seven day a week winch launch permission which will hopefully mean we can use some of those good days that always seem to occur on days when we've been unable to fly.  Our flying start membership is still proving to be very popular and we've had quite an influx of new members, whilst our AGM at the end of May saw lots of new faces joining the committee - Phil Harvey, John Colbert and Adriana and Peter Kent .

Other trophies went to Peter Kent (Cross Country trophy) and Val Roberts (most instructional hours).

Congratulations to Carl Smales who has completed his Bronze C Badge.
